BioMonitor Implantable Wireless ECG Now Approved for Whole-Body MRI in Europe
People with complicated and dangerous heart rhythms (SVTs, VTs, symptomatic bradicardias) may benefit from continuous ECG monitoring that can be used to diagnose and manage a variety of conditions. Last year BIOTRONIK released the BioMonitor implant, a three channel ECG monitor, that looks like a typical pacemaker, but that doesn’t have intracardiac electrode leads. While the BioMonitor can be of considerable diagnostic benefit, preventing future MRI scans can be a serious limitation for the type of patients who would use it.
Now BIOTRONIK has announced that European authorities have given a green light for the BioMonitor to be used during full-body MR scans, greatly expanding the diagnostic options of cardiologists working with complicated atrial fibrillation, bradycardia, and tachycardia patients.
